The
first incarnation of a hotel at this site first appeared
in around 1895. Over the years the Crag saw many different
owners but remained as an exclusive hotel right up until
1953, when it finally shut for business. In 1955 the Crag
was brought back to life again when the site was leased
to the Uplands school. Uplands remained here until 1977,
then moved out, leaving the Crag abandoned to this day.
The Crag is one of those rare locations where it feels like
you've steped back in time when you first visit it. A truly
remarkable location.
Very recently the Crag grabbed headlines when it was used
as the location for filming the 2015 UK Channel 4 TV drama
series, 'Indian Summers'. This was not the first time the
Crag had been used for filming, it had also been the location
for the 1992 French film, "Indochine". |
