The so called floating
mall has blighted the area for years and now sits as a testament
to bad ideas.
From an engineering point of view the building is interesting
as it sits on hundreds of piles driven into the sea, so it
more or less sits on stilts.
In recent years there looked to be
some form of attempt to resurrect the site, with a small
scale crew employed to clean out the interior as well as
guarding the building around the clock.
I was lucky and visited before 2011. Back then the mall
was wholly intact with many of the shop lots inside shuttered
and secure. What was amazing was that in some cases near
whole shop fit outs remained intact behind these screens.
It was like the place had closed for the night and the owners
would be back in the morning to reopen! In one lot, a small
cafe sat there with its fridges still stocked with now well
out of date cans of drink. A specials menu still hanged
on the wall and small tables and stools were set up ready
for paying customers.
Oerall the malls
infrastructure was vast and took me several revisits to
properly take it all in. The roof in particular was like
a secret community up there with its own futuristic like
lookout towers and spiral staircases.
