Located
on a out of the way small holding plantation, this little
bungalow has sat abandoned since the war. It’s one
of the very few examples of a colonial bungalow that I have
ever found that remains wholly period and un altered. In
many ways it's a true time capsule .
The bungalow originally was built for a
high ranking railway official. The design of the building
follows a standard plan which was replicated throughout
Malaya before the war. Bukit Tunku, in Kuala Lumpur, had
several similar bungalows of this type built there; sadly
all those examples have since been demolished.
The interior of this particular
bungalow was pretty dark. Tall rubber trees had crowded
out the much of the sunlight. What furniture remained inside
was rotting away. A cast iron bath tub still sat in the
bathroom, its insides now filled with muck.
For me it's a fascinating
little house, and if I am in the neighbourhood I will always
pay it a visit just to see how it is fairing.
