I
stumbled across these decommissioned carriages when exploring
a 1920’s railway goods shed.
Some railway staff were catching some zzz’s in the carriages
during a lunch break. In one bare stripped out carriage was
a special overturned seat for the yards chief mouser named
“Abang” (brother), who had slunk off moments before.
In a way it’s sad seeing old rail stock left like this,
but there’s change at hand with massive new modernisation
works for KTM, Malaysia’s national railway.
Modern new double tracking has begun up and down the country
displacing and destroying much of the railways old network,
including important built heritage structures and equipment.
These carriages aren’t heritage by
any means, but given a few more years... nah.
(2106) All these carriages have since
been scrapped and the small yard now an overgrown field.
