Pengerang is located in the southern state of Johore in Malaysia. The Pengerang defended area lies to the east of Singapore defending what was the eastern entrance that lead on to the Royal Naval base at Sembawang in WW2.

The Pengerang battery had a superior strategic position with its main observation post perched atop Bukit Pengerang's 600ft hill. This location provided unequaled views for spotting and engaging any enemy targets in the air or at sea.

Today, Bukit Pengerang is still treated as a strategic location and has one of Malaysia's Sea Surveillance Systems (MSSS) sited on its peak. This new radar system oversees shipping traffic and security monitoring activities within the territorial waters of Malaysia.
