"Concrete trench", admitedly probably not the best description for this construction. What's interesting about its layout is that it mimics the basic floorplan of what was termed as a "Singapore" type pillbox.

 

   The main steps down into the concrete trench construction.
 
The immediate surrounding slope area was incredbily overgrown with lalang (elephant grass). There is a possibilty of other structures like this which might be currently hidden from view.   I made sure to check the floor areas to see if there were any signs of mounting points for machine guns or other equipment, but could see no evidence of this.
